ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. She and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played many sports throughout her youth, but did not favor soccer until the age of 14. She then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to hone her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was named an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also participated in the Olympic Development Division's state and regional divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from the beginning of her season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be ranked as the top player on the list. Following her graduation earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in the history of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at both the collegiate as well as national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an injury to her ACL the first time she played for Berkeley. It prevented her from playing in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April of 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part-time player at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, and earned the team gold medals. One of these was a win goal against Italy which earned the U.S. team a final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead the team to victory over France. Morgan even though the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score goals or assists.
