  Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress, who was active in American and European films, renowned for her beauty and stunning silhouette. Her iconic character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her fame. Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29 September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a fashion model during her teens. Ekberg participated in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 after her mother's encouragement. She took home the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she could speak little English Ekberg travelled to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. It was an unofficial pageant at the time. As a student at a performing arts high school, she was a winner of the Coca-Cola Classic Talent Contest & appeared in numerous shows at The Actors Theatre of Louisville. After graduation from Wright State University, she pursued her studies in the theater arts. Then, she was invited to be part of the first season of WB's TV show Popstars (2000).
